The 2025 Aquinas Lecture at Blackfriars, Cambridge was delivered by Dr Gaven Kerr on Tuesday 28th January, 2025. Gaven is a married father of three. He has a BA in philosophy, an MPhil in philosophy on the distinction between essence and existence in Aquinas, and a PhD in philosophy on Aquinas and Kant, all from Queen’s University Belfast. He has published numerous articles on Aquinas, medieval philosophy, epistemology, and philosophy of religion. He has published three books: Aquinas’s Way to God (OUP, 2015), Aquinas and the Metaphysics of Creation (OUP, 2019), and Collected Articles on the Existence of God (Editiones Scholasticae, 2022). He is currently editing a volume on Thomism with Cambridge University Press, and is working on a book on the Metaphysics of the resurrection and a book on a Thomist reading of Kant. Outside of academia, Gaven is a martial artist practising Kung Fu, BJJ, and judo, and he competes in BJJ, judo, and MMA.
